1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:
- Protect students, staff, and the school community from misuse of technology.
- Promote safe, responsible, and ethical use of school technology and digital resources.
- Ensure compliance with Islamic values, educational goals, and applicable U.S. and Arizona laws.
2. Fair Use
School technology is provided to support learning, teaching, and administration. Resources are intended for educational use only. Excessive, disruptive, or non-educational use of school facilities may result in restricted access.
The School opposes all forms of abuse, discrimination, exploitation, and harmful activity. Students and staff are expected to engage with technology respectfully and responsibly.
3. Responsibility and Accountability
- Students are responsible for their behavior when using school technology, whether on campus or remotely.
- Parents/Guardians are encouraged to monitor responsible technology use at home.
- Staff and Volunteers are accountable for modeling and enforcing safe technology practices.
Any misuse of technology under a student or staff account is the responsibility of the account holder.
4. Prohibited Activities
The following uses of school technology are strictly prohibited:
a. Copyright Infringement & Unauthorized Materials
- Downloading, distributing, or using copyrighted materials without permission.
- Accessing obscene, defamatory, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content.
b. Spam & Unauthorized Messaging
- Sending bulk, unsolicited, or inappropriate messages (“spam”).
- Using school accounts for personal business or commercial solicitation.
- Running unapproved email lists or group communications.
c. Unethical, Exploitative, or Malicious Activity
- Attempting to hack, bypass, or gain unauthorized access to school systems or accounts.
- Introducing malware, viruses, or malicious code into school systems.
- Harassing, bullying, or discriminating against others online.
- Using technology to threaten, intimidate, or promote hate speech.
- Engaging in illegal activities, including but not limited to gambling, trafficking, or violence-related content.
d. Impersonation or Misrepresentation
- Pretending to be another student, staff member, or organization.
- Misrepresenting affiliation with Al Huda Islamic School for fraudulent purposes.
5. Student Online Safety
- Students must never share personal information (address, phone, passwords) online.
- Use of social media or messaging platforms during school hours must follow school guidelines.
- Teachers may monitor or restrict access to ensure student safety.
6. Consequences of Misuse
Violations of this policy may result in:
- Loss of technology privileges.
- Disciplinary action in line with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Notification of parents/guardians.
- Referral to law enforcement if illegal activity is involved.
No credit or compensation will be provided for loss of service due to policy violations.
7. Review and Updates
This policy represents a non-exclusive list of prohibited activities. Al Huda Islamic School reserves the right to modify this policy at any time. Updates will be posted on the school’s website, and significant changes will be communicated to parents, staff, and students.
Use of school technology following any updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
